Another week

Well, another week under our belt in sunny Florida! It's been a good week other than the fact that I haven't been able to sew at all! I miss it so! lol Really it's just trying to adjust to a new home, new state, new schools for the young uns and of course a new family!

It really is an interesting story. I've always thought my life was boring, but it certainly hasn't been this year! My parents divorced when I was very young and I had no contact with my dad. The years past and my parents both remarried. I was raised pretty much as an only child. I have a step brother but he didn't live in the same house and he's 5 years older. My dad on the other hand had 4 more children! I got to meet all of them when I was a senior in high school. It didn't go well. My sister was jealous of me and I had no idea how to deal with siblings. Or I should say one of my two sisters. Long story short, I again had no contact with my family.

Fast forward to this year. My dh worked nights and would usually sleep until at least 2 in the afternoon. One day he calls me at 10:30. My first thought is something is wrong. He tells me that the phone woke him up. I asked who called. He says my dad. Now I'm really in panic mode because I'm thinking my step-dad and the only reason he would call is something is wrong with my mom. He says no, you don't understand, your DAD.

Initially I was not pleased. I mean after all it had been over 20 years since I had heard from him or any of my family. But, we're all adults now so I wanted to hear what he had to say.

Turns out that he'd been looking for me for a little while. And that wasn't the only surprise. We've all lived within miles of each other many times over the years. And I have another brother too. My step mom had a child when she was 16 that she had been forced to put up for adoption. He's been found too. Turns out I'm older than him by about 3 weeks! And he's lived close to us all too. Matter of fact he used to work in a restaurant that my husband and I used to go to. My husband remembered him!

Yes, it's been a very topsy turvy year.

Anyway, maybe I'll get some quilting in this week. Wish me luck!
