Happy New Year

Another year is done. Wow. Where does the time go?! This has been a very topsy turvy year, but I wouldn't trade it. We learn as much from the mistakes as we do the successes.

What about the new year? Well I'm looking forward to learning more about this wonderful craft I am addicted to. I've always loved most crafts and I do still crochet and I haven't totally ruled out picking up some needlework, but quilting is my first crafting love.

I'm also going to explore my faith in more depth. I've gotten away from it some and it's time to go back.

Last but not least I'm looking forward to learning more about my 'new' family, or should I say newly found, and building relationships.

I found the camera! Unfortunatly the batteries are dead. sigh But, I have found some pictures I took and downloaded to the computer so here are a few things I worked on this year.

Tonight we will have a quiet night at home away from the crazy drivers and just enjoy our immediate family. We're going to watch a movie, throw some pizza in the oven and relax.

Hoping everyone a safe and Happy New Year!

Happy Quilting!

Are YOU ready for Christmas?

I don't know about everyone else, but the scramble is on! I'm making gifts for the new found family because buying them would be CRAZY! Each family is getting a table runner and some home baked goodies. I have the table runners planned and some are semi-cut. Good thing I've still got a few days. It helps ALOT that I am currently tele-commuting - no being stuck in traffic! Sure beats living in Indianapolis and spending a minimum of 2 hours a day in the car. See? I've got an extra 10 hours a week now to get it all done.

I've got planned table runners using Bonnie Hunters maverick star instructions. I'm just changing out the fabric for each family. Keeps it simple. If I ever find that dang camera....

Happy quilting!

Another week

Well, another week under our belt in sunny Florida! It's been a good week other than the fact that I haven't been able to sew at all! I miss it so! lol Really it's just trying to adjust to a new home, new state, new schools for the young uns and of course a new family!

It really is an interesting story. I've always thought my life was boring, but it certainly hasn't been this year! My parents divorced when I was very young and I had no contact with my dad. The years past and my parents both remarried. I was raised pretty much as an only child. I have a step brother but he didn't live in the same house and he's 5 years older. My dad on the other hand had 4 more children! I got to meet all of them when I was a senior in high school. It didn't go well. My sister was jealous of me and I had no idea how to deal with siblings. Or I should say one of my two sisters. Long story short, I again had no contact with my family.

Fast forward to this year. My dh worked nights and would usually sleep until at least 2 in the afternoon. One day he calls me at 10:30. My first thought is something is wrong. He tells me that the phone woke him up. I asked who called. He says my dad. Now I'm really in panic mode because I'm thinking my step-dad and the only reason he would call is something is wrong with my mom. He says no, you don't understand, your DAD.

Initially I was not pleased. I mean after all it had been over 20 years since I had heard from him or any of my family. But, we're all adults now so I wanted to hear what he had to say.

Turns out that he'd been looking for me for a little while. And that wasn't the only surprise. We've all lived within miles of each other many times over the years. And I have another brother too. My step mom had a child when she was 16 that she had been forced to put up for adoption. He's been found too. Turns out I'm older than him by about 3 weeks! And he's lived close to us all too. Matter of fact he used to work in a restaurant that my husband and I used to go to. My husband remembered him!

Yes, it's been a very topsy turvy year.

Anyway, maybe I'll get some quilting in this week. Wish me luck!

My first comments!

Thank you to those who have posted comments on my blog! I'm real new to this and I appreciate those that took the time to welcome a newbie.

I've misplaced my camera! I love moving. We moved from a 3 bedroom home to a two bedroom apartment! Yeah, I've got a lot of room. Right now I'm just trying to FIND the quilts in progress let alone work on them. lol Anyway, it will all come together and smooth out. Maybe I expect too much - after all we've only been here a week!

Anyway, once I find the camera, and the quilts, I'll post some pictures.

Quilting Gallery

I just added my blog to Quilting Galley blog directory! I'm anxious to meet other quilters in Florida and I thought maybe this would help. And it looks like a lot of fun! I was too late to sign up for the Inchies swap - better luck next time because that looks like a lot of fun too! I do feel so inadequate when I look at other people's blogs though. There is some AMAZING things being done now and I'm no where near that good. But, there is always room to improve!

Happy quilting!

I'm Baaacckkk

Not that anyone would notice, but I'm back! After months of no internet at home, I can blog again!!

What's new?? Well, I've reconnected with family that I haven't seen in 26 years, which means I've been veerrrryyy busy trying to learn all my nieces and nephews - all 17 of them - 5 siblings and their spouses. Want to trade? lol

I'm currently working on two quilts - one for my cousin who is expecting her first baby, and one for my step-mom. I'll post pictures when they're all done.

Happy quilting!

Quilt-a-long choices

I'm participating in Judy L's Quilt-a-long and these are my fabric choices. I bought the stripe and the paisley, but all others came from my stash. I don't have a huge stash yet so I needed the focus fabric. I like the stripe, just not the metalic stripe running through it. I have to make up my mind if I'm going to use the stripe or the paisley, or use the stripe in the blocks and the paisley for the border, but I think it will all come together. I want to hang this finished quilt on my family room wall so maybe the metalic will be just the thing! The walls are plain white and since we're renting right now we can't paint. The quilt will add some much needed color!
I can't wait to get started!

Moving!

We're in the process of moving. While we're only moving across town to a larger house, this is work! But the plus side is I get a sewing room!!!! YAHOOO!!!!! I don't have to put away my current project anymore when it's time for dinner! and if I have 15 minutes to sew while I'm waiting for DD to get her butt in gear, I can do that! Oh happy day!! We should be in our new house by next Sunday. I must be totally nuts though - I just signed up for a Quilt-a-long!!! and the first step is due Feb 17. That's in two days. I KNOW I've lost my mind. Wish me luck! lol

My Blog was highjacked!!

I should have known better! lol Ask DH to help me fix the blog and what does he do? He writes a post!! Silly man. At least I don't have a button in the middle of my posts now. Mind you I still can't figure out how to get the buttons on the SIDE of my blog, but that will all come in time I'm sure.

I had a wonderful day today at a sewing seminar in a neighboring county. It was a great day to learn more about local quilt shops and a few new techniques. Of course, I'm so new to quilting that almost ALL techniques are new techniques in practice! But I am really enjoying this journey that I have begun. Of course DH has started to say that he has been divorced due to quilting, but he is really blowing this out of proportion! lol He'll learn too.

Frustration!

I am so totally frustrated! My husband bought me a Flynn quilting frame for Christmas. I was so excited! I thought, "It's going to be so easy to machine quilt now!" Ha! I spent the entire day yesterday trying to quilt a present for my new Grandaughter who is having a birthday party today. I'm a quilter - and I don't have a quilt finished for her birthday! Talk about feeling inadequate! So I'll be leaving in a little while to buy her another present. Frustrating!

Welcome to my world

I'm really new to this blogging thing. I don't even know how anyone will ever see this, but thought I'd join the current century! lol
